Jeco dc clock repair

I have a jeco clock from my Datsun 240z that I'm trying to repair. The clock has a small 12v dc motor that drives the clock gearing. The dc motor has a 600 ohm resistor in series on the negative leg. The motor works when out of the clock mechanism. The mechanism has been oiled with clock oil and seems to be free. But when I add the motor to the gear mechanism it doesn't spin. Any suggestions?
