Hello from deep diving hobbyist

Hi All, I am a hobbyist and really like traditional forums for my hobbies. A little about myself. I am a professional designer that includes a lot of technical skills so this is a natural fit for me. I look forward to learning from everyone here.

I always liked watches since I was a kid through college but stopped wearing them long, long ago. A little less than a year ago I decided to start wearing them again to help me stop looking at my darn phone and getting distracted. Fast forward between a bunch of Casios, to modding Casios, to used SKXs (I used to actually Scuba Dive), to modding SKXs to building a couple of watches from Chinese clone parts to now taking Mark's class. Now I've got two watch boxes with a mix of mechanical, automatic, quartz and digital. Some new, some used plus a few inherited vintage. (Still not sure when used becomes vintage in Horology.) I tend to dive crazy deep into my hobbies and go overboard. However I can see myself doing this for a long, long time. I love learning and building skills and there is so much I see in watchmaking I know I can keep learning until I drop some day. So that is very exciting. My goal going forward is to continue what I've been doing with the modding and building but also to be able to service the watches myself. Especially if I buy a used watch to mod or restore. I just gave a few away mods and builds as gifts to family members and I think they found it the most thoughtful gifts in a long time.

If you read all of that then thanks for taking the time, I appreciate it and again looking forward to learning from you.

    • Hi @Roll1ex, welcome to WRT. Is there a big second hand watch market in Mumbai? I seem to see a lot of used watches and clocks on eBay coming from Mumbai.  I used to buy a watch every month from Mumbai on eBay. My mentor told me it was the best way to learn watch repair, by fixing everything that's not right.
    • Here is another option, if you have the patience to sort through the parts you usually find 50-100 screws as well as some other cool stuff. Most times I get an order from these guys I get a 250g box, takes a few days, but end up with hundreds of spares and all you need is for one of them to be useful and it pays for itself. Also helps hone your tweezer skills!
    • As Hector said they have too much  tension, that tension is also fixed and not easy to control. Conventional tweezers have infinitely variable grip provided by us.
    • Thank you and i appreciate that, it looks very different    Thank you sir but i think there is a little problem according to that reading it's because it is far different to the other move that i serviced, i will atouched the photo. They are different movements but this one is 7s26b movement and they are also different in shape when it comes to the ballance assmebly. Thanks also for the concerned i appreciate that.
    • Donor movement showed up, so I stole the bridge screw from it. Which made me sad, because it's in such nice shape! It seems a shame. Maybe I'll find a use for it one of these days. Unfortunately, the stem is for a different style of case and is much too short. Fortunately, I ordered a brand new stem from McCaw Company. Unfortunately, the crown on the donor movement is thoroughly stripped out (it unscrewed in a shower of brass) so i just put the old stem back in for now until I source a new crown. As you can see, it's just a little too long for this case. Overall I'm super pleased. I didn't think I'd like the bracelet, and even that is growing on me.   Anyone have a favorite crown assortment?
