Vintage Wittnauer LED battery replacement issue/problem

Recommended Posts

Hi. New to this forum.  I have a beautiful Vintage Wittnauer LED watch which worked well since I purchased it from the bay years ago.  I think I even replaced the batteries once and all was ok. Recently I took it to a jewellery store to get the batteries replaced as I was out of batteries.  They had trouble with keeping the metal piece in place and couldn't get it situated. I said I'd take it home and fix it with a piece of tape to keep the metal contact strip in place. When I secure the backplate the watch just sits on double zero's or SUN 01 something like that and the button or reset button will not change anything. I am confused and don't know if something's wrong with the watch or just the way we did something?  I have tried about 30 times to resituate and close the back and still get the same result.  20231029_120936.jpg.2eaedf2df470a4072e178c1704ab20a5.jpg20231029_120814.jpg.786788c7df17d5cad34935f0818ee3c5.jpg20231029_120631.jpg.f0c372e7bf55c37def6d48fab83c0327.jpg20231029_120600.jpg.feba7aedab633c164d429f497328b388.jpg20231029_120544.jpg.e085765d45bc91639afea20358af3de3.jpg20231029_120936.jpg.2eaedf2df470a4072e178c1704ab20a5.jpgAny suggestions/ideas?

Were the old batteries leaking battery juice all over the circuit board? If they were, the circuit might be damaged.

I would disassemble the movement and clean the circuit board with dilute vinegar, flush with copious amounts of distilled water. Dry thoroughly and inspect pcb tracks for damage and crusty looking solder joints.

Hi Hectorlooi.  Thanks for helping me.  No the old batteries did not leak, the circuit board was dry.  I did wipe it though with alcohol just to clean it.  I may be brave and try your suggestion to clean the board.  Thank you.  Take care.
