Hoping someone can help with a question from a new guy.

I'm experimenting with a Felsa 1560, and I am replacing its mainspring. I have ordered and received a new mainspring, and I have removed the old spring from the barrel. (Here's the link to what I purchased.) The old mainspring was two pieces - one that only wrapped the inside of the barrel once, and one long blue steel spring that mated with it. Nothing appeared to be broken, and these two pieces seemed to be designed to work together. However, the new spring is only a single piece with the "Y-shape" split bridle on one end.

Do I just insert this new spring into the empty barrel? Or, do I still need that short part that mated with the original mainspring?

Thank you!
