Pocket watch case with bezel and back frozen

Recommended Posts

I was given this Alaska Silver case the other day.  Could not remove the back or the bezel.  Back was easy.  I glued a nut on it and took it off with a wrench.

But what about the bezel.  How to remove without damaging???

I designed a piece on my CAD software that would fit on the bezel.  Printed with 3D printer using PLA. Then I glued it with superglue.  Once it was fastened, I could grasp the PLA ring with a pair of channel lock pliers.  It was hard, but it broke loose.  I had to remove the PLA using a heat gun.

NO DAMAGE TO THE CASE!!

Another 3D printer to the rescue.  There would be no other way I could think of to grasp the frozen bezel.

Now I need to figure out what to do with it.  I suppose any 18s movement would fit.

Well done. I'd have been in the stores with my calipers looking for the product with the right sized lid...may I ask the type super glue you used? I've been using the standard Crazy with the brush applicator thingie so I can better control the amount of glue but when I'm finished my acetone isn't all that responsive so I've had to resort to a hot water soak, so it's either the glue or my acetone, but one is like the other, no?
