Ali Express - Horia clone arrived today

Recommended Posts

I'd never purchased anything from Ali Express before.  I decided to give it a try and I purchased one of their Horia tool clones.  Well I must say I knew what I was buying when I did it, but I am quite surprised with what I received.  This thing has some weight to it.  The threads feel smooth.  I even took a micrometer and measured some of the pushers and anvils and everything was pretty much where it needed to be, +/-  .001 or so.  I used the tool tonight to remove the upper mainspring barrel arbor bushing in a Seiko 6138 and replaced it with a jewel.  It worked like a charm.

Glad yours worked well and that's what I'm hoping for too.

I have one of those coming (via eBay instead) at the end of this month that I'm looking forward to receiving. This particular import seems to get pretty good reviews.

The worst I've heard is that some of the pushers & anvils occasionally are loose or tight, which doesn't bother me as I will simply nudge them to fit better if necessary.

Out of curiosity, how much are they asking?  Got a  link for it?  I may check it out.

This is the one I purchased.

I'm pretty pleased with it.  I have been out sick for a couple of days now, but I got a little energy to get to my bench when this thing arrived on my doorstep.

Purchased that same one.

Tried it out adjusting the pallet fork pivot jewels (both mainplate and cock) of a Seiko 1104A. Back and forth. Removed the pallet cock jewel entirely and put it back.

Worked perfectly. This Chinese clone is a boon for the hobbyist.

I wish I could get just the anvil set for my Seitz, but it only costs about $10 less than the anvil/pusher set and the tool together.

Crazy pricing.  Had I known beforehand, common sense would've told me to find a cheaper hobby!

    • As Richard said, this is a really old school trick for joinery.  Cut i strip of paper, might need to be watch paper  around 1 " x 1/2" lay it over a staking block then press the stud screw into and through the edge of the paper upto the head of the screw. You probably wont even need to pull the paper away the head will pull itself through.
    • Thanks Jon, my mum is getting there day by day, so strong and determined, they dont make em like this anymore 🙂 Old folk are so amazing,  my mum used to love her golf, she didn't stop playing until she was 70 . Enjoy your trip and your golf.
    • Hello,  i am looking to source a winding stem (winding arbor) for a waltham 6/0 d movement. I have found some that claim to fit 6/0, 6/0s, 6/0b etc and somealso claim they will also fit the d as well. The d does have hacking which is driven by the stem seating completely. Given some of the costs of these, i was hoping someone would know of any interchangeability with a source, or know a source where a confirmed 6/0 d stem can be had. I am in the US so a US dealer is best.    thanks in advance.
    • So great to see and hear- your mum looks great! …my mil had a stroke last summer in the golf course parking lot. I’m flying out tomorrow to visit and play golf. she’s ornery because she can’t get off the tee but I hear she makes up for it on the greens since she’s been putting since a week after her stroke 🧐…
    • Very best wishes to you and your family, as a carer myself I know how difficult things can be.
