@Neverenoughwatches I think timber would be as good as most things as long as it’s dense enough. Time to dig out your stash of magnum litvae or Madagascar ebony 🤪😂.  Probably cheaper making them with silver bullion these days though 🤣

I think though anything that is soft enough not to marr the movement but resilient enough to stand up to regular use would work Rich.

Magnum litvae 🙂 sounds like something Dirty Harry would use, " you gotta ask yourself one question,  do I feel lucky ? Well do ya punk ? 😄. Close Tom , you nearly got it, switch a few letters around. It was actually used for making bearings years ago, maybe still is 🤷‍♂️.  Timber would be so much easier for me, like the rotary washer stand I cobbled together a few days ago 😄, thing is I wouldn't learn to machine with steel. I've found some 28mm copper pipe, might be some machining happening later today. I still like the idea of a solid blank, curious to see how well it would machine.

I think the poly rolling pins would be a really good experiment Rich, I expect that you could work it easy enough on your woodwork lathe and with the same tools.
