I’m working on an old pocket watch, fitting parts from other ones and don’t know how to set the Geneva gears on the barrel. 
Im still fitting the gears so it looks messy in the below photo. 
Any guidance is much appreciated.

The geneva stop work was designed to use the center of the mainspring ,cutting off the high torque and the low torque ends of the spring and just use the controlled power area in the center. so you pre load the spring and fit the stop. the attached link explains it a bit better. Off the top of my head I can not remember the turns on the spring before fitting the stop, from the stop point the spring will only wind approx six turns before stopping
