ETA 2778 day jumper variance

Recommended Posts

I was going post this watch in the Achievements thread, but since I have a question I will post it here.

Before service, the movement appeared to be in great condition except I noticed the day ring was not working properly--most often stuck between days.

I serviced it without any issues, but when it was all back together, I still had the day ring problem.  I noticed that the day jumper (spring) did not lie in a precise position based on the screw and hole in the plate.  As I show in the attached image, it could vary a few degrees in rotation.  This amount of "slop" makes a big difference in how the day ring performs.

I wonder if this is a common issue with this ETA movement or does one have to do what I did--hold the spring in the desired position while tightening the screw.  The watches I have worked have not had such imprecision.

I am posting additional pictures of the watch and movement because everybody likes pictures.1622819921_2022-02-0410_20_45-IMG_7918.JPG-Photos.png.e03b756278c3c325d26d13e58dd6c40d.png
