Stem won't change position

These Sellita's are giving me such a hard time! I'm putting together a Sellita 220-1 (automatic, day/date) watch. The stem goes in and locks but then it doesn't move (does not move horizontally as if to put in day/date mode, it will spin). It will come out entirely if I use the push pin. When I spin the crown the watch doesn't wind nor can I set the day/date. I haven't been able to find any information on this problem. What could it be?

Can you post a picture of the watch in question and its caliber number.  Have you stripped the watch down and are on a re build when you run into this problem.

Has the yoke spring slipped under the yoke as you reassembled? That will jam things up.
