Just aquired this any ideas what it used to be

Recommended Posts

Hi, I'm recently new to tinkering. I just received a bunch of parts today and this movement and dial (see pics) were in the bag. It started to run as soon as I put it in my palm. I would be interested in knowing what it was originally. Fingers crossed someone may have a clue.

The movement is a 1188 .

Thanks in advance.

Yep.  1950 to 1955.  It's a fairly straightforward little A. Schild.  Just hour, minute, & sweep second, with 15j & incabloc.  Not hard to work on either.  Not hard to get parts if needed.  Quite accurate for the price.  That said, casing a watch is a skill unto itself.  It's not just getting the right size case and movement holder ring, you have to size the stem too, and find a dial with feet that match the holes in the base plate (or mount the dial feet) and get the right size hands.  But if you can do all that and find a nice, cozy little home for it, you'll have a sweet timepiece with a solid vintage movement.
