Longcase clock bottom trunk

Spotted this on ebay. You can see how the bottom is not the original it has been replaced. It’s not the same colour its lighter, if anything it should be darker being at the bottom it would be prone to dirt and damp and even chipped. This is just a little bit of advice on what to look for if you are thinking of buying a Longcase clock.

Hi OH

The cut out is an unusual shape, being on the floor like you say more vunerable to damp and thus rot, i don't think it is a problem replacing it as long as the buyer is made aware that it is a replacement, like you say colour match could be better. The horizontal parting of the boards is unusual in that all the cases with cracks here have always been vertical.
