Hello watch & clock community,

I may be visiting here with lots of questions once I start on my first project of mechanical restoration of this clock from a WWII Messerschmitt ME109

It came from my late Grandfather's estate, who was a watch repairer, as was his father. So I've decided it's time to learn!

Presently I'm a complete novice.

It has a bent balance cock and mangled hair spring on first inspection.

I'll be watching a lot more of Mark's fantastic films before I'm ready to dismantle the movement.

good to know this is the place to be.

regards

Tim

Welcome to the forum Tim.

I'm looking forward to you repairing that ME 109 timepiece. Do you think it was the RAF that caused the damage? :)

I'm pretty sure the RAF shot it down, but as the case and dial etc seem in very good original condition I suspect it came about in some other way.

The little tab that sticks out to attach the hair spring to was bent way in.

Thanks Will,

I like your site.

I also have a 1890s 'Saphin of London' pocket watch made by my great great grandfather, to get working again.

What a great thing to own, you must post a couple of pictures.

I may do. It's in a later and broken case currently and the movement is sealed.

I've just realised this post should probably be in 'Clock Corner'

sorry about that admin.

I have a lot to learn!
