  1. Looking for some help, my friend had an issue with his watch having water enter the movement. It has stopped working and I fear the movement could be fried. Just in case this worst case scenario plays out I was looking at new movements. The movement is an ETA (Tag) 955.112. I looked on CousinsUK and they say it is a discontinued movement. They only have the version without the seconds hand for sale. Does anyone know the correct movement to replace the ETA 955.112 with? I did see one site state that the ETA F06.111 was the replacement, but I'm not sure I trust the source enough to order one without checking here first. Also it looks like the crystal gasket may be to blame, can anyone point me in the right direction for a replacement? It is a Tag Kirium, but the part numbers have been worn off that case back. I guess this would also imply that the 955.114 could also replace the 955.112??
  2. I am working on a quartz watch with an ETA 955.424 movement. Even though the watch doesn't have a "Day" function, the movement has a Day wheel. I can't figure out how to remove the Day wheel so i can gain access the the Date wheel and other components. I can't find a service manual or video on how to do this. I did find a similar movement that shows a "C" clip holding the Day wheel but this movement has no such clip. The Day wheel looks like it should lift off but when i try, it is resisting and i don't want to force it. The wheel spins freely so maybe it is simply press fit over the "canon pinion"? Note that the Day wheel is part of the silver disk in the center so, if it is press fit it appears that i would have to lever under the outside of the disk which could compromise the Date wheel??? Any suggestions would be appreciated!
  3. Are you sitting comfortably? Then I'll begin! A while back I bought myself a Favre-Leuba quartz watch with an ETA 555.415 movement to add to my small F-L collection. It was a non-runner but that wasn't a particular concern. A new battery made no difference so okay, display only. More recently I bid on and won a going ETA 955.412 movement. I had misremembered that I had a 555 in the watch, not a 955 as I thought. No matter, I would swap them over. The first thing to tackle was the date ring as the donor date was at 6 and the recipient at 3. With the aid of Mark's excellent video I exchanged the rings although when I changed the date it felt a bit stiff, despite a dob of lube on the ring teeth. I should say that in the interim I had a crash course in tweezer wielding and sudden undesired launching of very small parts into the ether. An LED torch and lots of hands and knees were all that was required to remedy the matter and I only had to search for the same part twice. Again, no matter. So I put the dial and hands back on, set it all in the case and added battery. Bingo, the watch went! It was only after a few seconds that I noticed that the second hand had a nervous tic! This is the bit that has me stumped. The second hand moves once every four seconds! I know this because every time it moved it jumped four seconds - hence 'Fifteen times a minute'. Suffice it to say that the battery was removed and I contented myself by entirely disassembling the 555 movement for practice. Has anybody any understanding of what's happening? The 955 was going quite normally before I mucked around with it! Cheers John
