Hi everyone, Im new to this forum and I have a technical question and maybe someone could give me some advice or share some tip to resolve this problem. The thing is that I just service an ETA 2836 2. Once the job is finish the movement starts very strong with a good time reading, Beat error 0.6ms, Ampluitude 267 etc. but in a lapse of 24 hours the movement begins to loose time and the amplitude drops dramatically at the point that the movement completly stops.all pivots are in a good condition, not broken or chip jewel. This movement is completly strip, just the train work is in place. Please help.

Checked all the teeth on the barrel? Is there any dirt trapped between any of the teeth?

Same with the great wheel and pinion.

Endshake and side shake of barrel - can the barrel lean over enough to touch any of the wheels - you can check the barrel bridge, is there any scoring under it or under the ratchet wheel?

Hopefully you can see where I am going with this.

 

Also - check the hour wheel teeth, is there a calendar? If so then remove the calendar work and test again, maybe the changeover is causing the problem.

 

Check the free running of the train - e.g. fully assembled without the escapement/balance and manually turn the wheels (with the keyless and motion work assembled) make sure it turns for several cycles of the barrel - slowly and with as little pressure as possible, if the wheels become erratic then remove the motion work, then work your way all the way to the barrel checking all the teeth and pinion leaves to make sure no grit or dirt is wedged in where it should not be.

Ohhh and by the way let me take a couple of lines to tell you that I admire you as a professional, because you are one of the few persons in the trade that doesnt have fear to pass your knwoledge to help others. In my case I have to turn to a person that is 6,600km apart from me to get any help or advice. Once again thank you so much for your help.

      Yeah. I wish I can afford all of them. I am going to have to choose one. Seller says I can take my time to save up to purchase one before he puts them up online.    I saw the UK/EU/US prices are insane. A Robur press for $700. Albeit rare in South Africa. There was an auction in February this year for a Press and some other accessories for R3200 or $175. Min wage here is like R27,58 per hour or $1.5 per hour. Yeah, super cheap compared to other places. I actually debated trying the yahoo auctions to get one of those Seiko crystal openers but you need a Japanese residentual address?       One of them has the number 2414 on it so that is what it is. As I am disassembling the two in best condition.  There are things that confuses me of course being a beginner I am easily confused. But in particular the gear train seems to have too many wheels. The whining works. I am used to having the crown wheel with a small internal ring. In this movement, it has that, but there are two other wheels between the crown wheel and the ratchet wheel which also have internal rings.

      Think most if not all are Slava movements. The ones with 2 mainsprings are possibly 2414s Most if not all parts are available for these from Cousins, including complete balances.

      Talk about prices, have you noticed that in Japan everything except stuff made in Japan is ridiculously expensive? High import taxes or what? I mean some Bergeon that's 30€ at Cousins might be well over 100 in Japan.

      I got these from eBay to practice disassembling cleaning and reassembling movements without ruining working ones.  I had the hopes that at least one could be made from the parts which would live a bit so in the whole lot, I only found two which had balances which would oscillate. Both have damaged hairsprings, but not as bad as some of the others.  One of those is one of the four movements at the bottom. None of those four movements seem to have a cannon pinion. In addition I do not have a stem for any of those movements. So after more careful examination, I have no hope to make a working movement out of it, but I hope I can still gain some knowledge from practicing. Those movement have a double barrel must be pretty common since four of them were included in the lot. Does anybody have any idea about what they are? I will take pictures as I disassemble them.  Maybe there will be some indication. Sorry for not having more pictures yet. I am taking them with the camera on the microscope. I do not have an easy way to read the SD card yet, reader is on the way and should arrive today.
