Hello I am trying to git into watch repairing .i just got me a vintage Russian wrist watch .it need the wrist straps for it but it has the screw style pins .now here is the problem I am having they don't have a slot for a screw driver to back them out .is there a special way to do it.

What you thing is a screw, I believe is a cotter pin, you just push it opposite to where the seeming "screw head" is. Now, I may be wrong without seeing it. Try to post a picture so I can be certain.

And, welcome to the forum!

That's not a cotter pin as I had thought. Is there a screw head on the other side too? If there is, you might need two screwdrivers to loosen both sides...I really don't remember, it's been a long time I've worked on those. Maybe some other member has a better suggestion...

No screw slot on the other side .i am thinking it has worn off over time .and if so I may have to cut a new slot in it

This watch is best suited for a one piece thread through type of strap (or military strap) - the pins are supposed to be fixed as far as I am aware :)

You can get regular straps with open ends which fold over and have two pins to fold back or Hirsch makes open ended straps that glue in place (quite expensive).
