Another Comtoise

This one is not mine but belongs to an acquaintance of mine in town,

it depicts Christ being taken down from the cross, the date hand is missing from the dial & the door catch is a fist holding a stake

 I don't know where they got it from but think it is quite rare !

When you say quite rear are you referring to the dial? The painting is in poor condition. The thing with these clocks as with Longcase clocks there very easy to marry up. Replacing the hand shouldn’t be difficult.   From the picture it looks as if there is a vast amount of space from the hood to the dial on the right. Any rub marks from the pendulum in the trunk or marks from the weights that match up. The case has a nice proportion to it and colour with a nice patina.
