I have an old Lip chronograph which functions fine and was as cheap as chips. (I actually use it for timings when I'm cooking.)

I'm not really worried by the oxidation and bubbling on the chrome casing, but I'm curious as to whether there's anything can be done to smarten it up without having to go to town on it.

Good morning Will.

About the only thing you could do would be to give it a good polish. My favourite polish for both metal, acrylic and glass is Solvol Autosol. Using this stuff you will be able to polish the whole watch at once.

For the more fiddly bits use the above on cotton buds, but be careful not to get any past the pushers, especially if they are the old rectangular ones. To get into the very tightest corners I use either peg wood or a match stick cut to shape and use that to apply the polish.

Be aware that a little of that stuff goes a long way. Just use a little at a time and rub quite firmly. Finish off with a a clean duster, then the a cloth for polishing silver if you are really fussy even though it is not silver that you are polishing.

Solvol arrive this morning - and it did very well on the Lip. I just tried it out on the main casing - haven't got on to the more corroded bits yet, but will have a crack at those tomorrow. Thanks for the tip.
