I have a Poljot 3133 "Shturmanskie" chronograph, and have noticed that when pressing the pusher to start the chrono, the sweep second hand advances nearly ten seconds before timing actually starts. So I dug into it yesterday evening to find that the cause is apparently magnetism... Specifically, the reset hammers normally rest against the minute and second counter wheel cams; when I start the chrono, the hammers pull away from the cams normally - but the cam for the second hand sticks to the hammer magnetically and pulls the hand around a bit before the second hand drive wheel engages.

So my question is, how can I demagnetize it?

Thanks in advance!

Thanks, that answers my question! That said, I think I have an old head demagnetizer for tape recorders around here somewhere. Would it be worth trying first?

Thanks,

After actually finding my old tape head demagnetizer on the first try - after not even seeing it for years - I tried it out on the Poljot, and it was a success.

So just FYI, tape head demags seem to work well on watches too.
