That's good Andrea, everyone should feel equal, and we are all here to help each other......apart from AndyGSi and myself apparently .

All animals are equal, but some are more equal than others

As the topic shifted, I will ask another question:

I will go to London soon, is there any interesting watch repair shop there?

If you find any will you post some pictures Andy, I love old watch shops. I found a fantastic one in Rome, an old guy eyeballing a repair to a pocket watch.

I think the high street repair shop is unfortunately becoming a thing of the past.

Edit

Sorry about the drift off topis.

Don't know of any watch repair shops, but HS Walsh have a shop in Hatton Garden.

When in the West End I usually walk down New Bond Street, ogling in the windows at the very expensive watches 🤪

Also, if you haven't already been, the Science Museum now houses the collection from the "Worshipful Company of Clockmakers". Watches from 1600 to present. Some of those from the 1600s are incredible. Well worth a visit.

I should also have mentioned the Royal Observatory at Greenwich, which among it's collection (including John Arnold, Thomas Earnshaw and Thomas Tompion) have, what is to me, THE ultimate watch - Harrison's H4.  The most important watch ever made? What's it worth?
I think all watchmakers should make the pilgrimage and pay homage to it 😍

    • Seldom do I have to remove pallet stones. But maybe an experiment with the bad stone rather than pulling it out what happens if you? I'm trying to figure out how to word this. Often times if pressure is put either on the top or the bottom of the stone typically at the end the stone will become angled of course either up or down. So rather than pulling the stone out what happens if you push on it were at angles itself to its almost this is really worded very peculiar but I'm proposing instead of pulling you pushed down on it and get it to rotate and then you should build I have basically less side contact on the stone that makes any sense at all. It is actually quite easy on full plates for instance when you're putting them together to overlap the escape wheel to in the pallet fork and end up with the stone at some weird angle and it's as easy to do that it might be easier to get the stone out that way than by trying the political out where yes they seem to be quite tight even without the shellac
    • That can be fixed.  The alternative is a balance complete which is gonna come from a donor.
    • These two quotes together are quite amusing aren't they? We end up with quite an amusing problem. We find out that you not going to charge for labor material or basically anything the repair of a watch will cost them zero. All they have to contribute to the project is a free watch and you will generate cash for them at no expenditure to them at all. So this actually means that every single watch is now worth it to them as they have nothing at all to lose. There's a reason why on eBay when they sell watches that they say are running but they only ran for a few seconds when they observed it was running. Or the definition of cleaning is spraying it with lighter fluid and saying it's now cleaned. Because anything that resembles proper watch servicing requires time and effort and expenditure. But here at least for the charity there is no time there is no expense there is no nothing outstanding deal they worked out but is it a good deal for you? If basically the watch is only going to make a profit because of all the effort that you put into it way beyond what the watch would've cost even if it was running is it really a good deal?
    • Hello All, I need to cut 316L stainless steel to 0.5 millimetre depth/hight (make groove) with a diameter 27.5mm. The problem is that I do not have a lathe and I couldn’t find anyone nearby with one (CNC, laser) so far.  I wonder if it can be done with Dremel, drill or any other tool that is easy to find. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
