I recently acquired a used Tissot Carson that needed a new battery. The previous owner sold it to me as a broken watch and couldn't provide any information about its condition, as it had been stopped for many years.

After replacing the battery, the watch started running immediately. However, it intermittently stops for a few seconds to minutes, and sometimes when the seconds hand moves, the minutes hand shakes back and forth. I used an LR626 battery instead of the original 377 cell, as it was the only one available at the nearby store. Could this battery be causing the issue?

The movement model is not specified; it only says "ETA No (0) Jewels" as shown in the pictures. If anyone can identify the movement or provide information on compatible movements, possible solutions, or places to find parts, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thank you!

A few minutes after posting this, checking the pictures above, I saw in the second picture, close to the crystal, something written that I could not identify.

I opened the watch again, pulled the lupe and bingo! It was the model of the movement 805.112!

LR626 & 377 are the same battery.

As you can see from the back these are sealed movements so not a lot can be done if the problem is with the gear train.

What test equipment have you got and can you post a video to show what's happening.

You shouldn't use LR batteries for watches as they are alkaline batteries and have a tendency to leak.

You should use SR batteries instead, which are silver oxide.

Should have picked up on that myself and maybe part of the problem.

Thanks for the heads-up! I wasn't aware of that. I'll go ahead and purchase the 377 or SR battery online since the nearest store only had alkaline ones.

Interestingly, after starting this thread, the watch has been running perfectly without any interruptions. It seems like there might have been some old oil or grease blocking the movement after being idle for so many years. But now, it's been running smoothly for the past hour without any signs of stopping or slowing down.

Following my previous post, I replaced the battery with a 377 Renata and went on a trip, leaving the watch at home. Upon returning last Thursday, I found the watch had completely stopped. However, after a single tap, the seconds hand resumed movement and has been working since then. I am now considering changing the movement, as new ones are quite affordable.

It could just need a drop of fresh oil on the rear pivots to get it running again.

If they're standard pivot heights then it shouldn't be a problem getting a replacement movement.

It's a simple job as long as you've got the tools to remove and replace the hands.

Edit

After looking into this I'm not sure if the dial is removable.

About the pivots, are they these marked in red in my picture? Which oil would you recommend here?

An update on this topic.

I took the advice from @AndyGSi above and added a drop of oil on each of the pivots a week ago. Apparently this was enough to solve the problem. Since last week it's keeping the time well without any stop.

Thanks for the suggestion. The watch is running like new.
