I have just purchased a new stone. My only India stone, which I inherited with the house 20 years ago, works great for sharpening screwdrivers but I wanted something new, flat and with medium and fine surfaces.

I put a generous amount of oil on it and the stone just absorbed the lot. I've had a scout online and a suggestion was to melt petroleum jelly and immerse the stone in that overnight. Im going to need a lot of jelly for that and it's going to get messy. Is this the best method of preventing the stone from absorbing all the oil I have or should I keep feeding it until the oil rests on the surface?
