I'm looking for the movement spacer ring for a Vertex 1944 military 'dirty dozen'.

Ideally, I'd like to buy an original, although that may prove difficult.

So, anyone with anything similar or just the correct sizings, would suffice for now.

Alternatively, is there anyone that may be able to machine one (preffered) ?  Or maybe even the dreaded 3D printing ?

I'd try to cut one from thin brass sheet?

That's readily available and easy to work.

Cut a strip with the length just less than the original part circumference, wide enough to include the tabs, then use a nibbler to cut the excess away between the tab positions.

(This type of thing, if you've not seen them)

I doubt you will find an original, i do have a 59 in a different case , I'll have to dig it out and have a look . I think you are stuck with manufacturing something.

Thanks for the replies.  @Neverenoughwatches  If you have something that looks suitable, let me know and I'll get some dimensions.  Thanks.

No problem I'll have a look now, i dont remember it having a retaining ring but i could be wrong, I've not worked on it yet, its just to be a donor when i find a military Vertex. Sorry matey no movement ring in this, someone else might have one but its going to have to be in a DD case to get those sizes right.

I too have a cal 59, but it's in a gold case with no movement ring.

What I'd do is look for a job lot of movement rings on ebay, and tweak one to fit. They are easy to cut and bend, and you don't have to be exact on diameter as there is a cut out for the stem

Hmmmm nice Mike , the Vertex was very popular over here, the brand was relaunched not so long back by the grandson of the guy that had a lot to do with their sales here.  Nice Dennison case as well, whats the dial matey.

Good alternative Mike so he can wear it until he can find or have one made in steel.

It's only small, but it's one of my favourite watches. Nice simple dial with sub-seconds, and gorgeous gold hands 🤩

    • Shellac is what I used. Baloon chuck... Could work, but here the pivot is verry lo above the pinion shoulder and I am not sure if i will protrude enough from the hole of the chuck. It depends on the chuck. But I don't have one... Here it is crusual to make the pivot centrical and this is what I came to in my practice that really works.
    • I tend to do the same, but I'm not very strict about it, given the very shallow taper of the broach from end-to-end and the 1 or 2 mm of hole you are broaching the height difference of the broach over that plate thickness is vanishingly small, I could do the trigonometry, but haven't had enough coffee ☕ yet this morning, therefore in reality I don't think it really matters if you do from one side or do 50:50..or...? I tend to do from one side, and if it needs more I try and remember to do the next bit from the other side, if I can't remember which side's turn it is I don't worry about it using the reasoning above.
    • In what way are you breaking them, maybe pictures would help?
    • OK I'm going to call this.... and the winning combination is...... £10.10 So the value to be equal or less than £10.10 or equivalent in your currency, exclusive of reasonable shipping charges and/or spares. To start the ball rolling here is my first posting as a 10:10, this is a Buler that I picked up in October 2023 for the sum of £3.00, apart from the strap and cracked crystal, all is original: Before shot: And the movement: All went smoothly with no drama, so the whole thing took about 5 hours, here is the final result: The date is manually set (not quick set... hence the wrong date)
    • I got a little 3D printed mainspring winder (8mm) I'm trying to wind the spring for a 10mm barrel. This a Zim2602. Am I breaking them because the winder is too small for the spring? Or is this a case of user bumbling?
