Afterintroducing myself as a Bulova Newbie, I wold like to ask a couple of questons.

The 11BLC watch I bought is a non runner and it would not wind up, and also The hands would not move when trying to adjust the time. The seller thought it might be the main spring.

I removed the movement and started to strip down. After I had removed the winder rod& gears, the  balance wheel and the cassette for the mainspring, a small lug fell out of the movement. It looked like a movement retainer lug but half the length of the others..  At this I replaced the winder mechanism and was pleased to see that the hands would now move with the winder.

However by this time I had already been on You Tube to research how to remove a main spring. Taking the spring and centre boss out was fairly straight forward, BUT! I  didn't take a photo or make a note of which way round  the spring was wound. A real novice mistake! Clockwise or anti clockwise, so can anyone help me to determine which way round it goes with a photo or two?

Also It looks like I will need to buy a mainspring winder tool, but I have no idea which size to buy.

Hopefully, with the mainspring and balance wheel reinstalled It may complete a test  run before I clean it Note the photo is generic, not my actual watch.

Cheers,

Boggie46
