I was reading the whole thread as ebay was a website I was interested in long ago. I had 100% positive feedback as a buyer, never sold anything. You may not believe this, but I've never fallen prey to any scammer there. I had a few basic filtering rules. Firstly, it should not be a business seller, it should be a private seller. Secondly, there should be at least 20 feedback and no more than 300 feedback - all positive.  Thirdly, he shouldn't have sold the same kind of item except in the case of books. I start from there, and filter further.

The very first thing I bought was a treadmill for a friend in London from a seller from London, and although I had already bought the item he refused to ship it to the address as I was not from anywhere near the UK. But I spoke to him via messages and convinced him. He left me a fabulous feedback.

I've bought many mobile phones and books. And various heavy metal patches for a boy who's interested in them. USB dongles, stickers, pens, and other items.

However I haven't bought anything since they changed their business strategies, interface, listing styles, and such. Therefore I have no idea how it works now, but when I was buying through them I could somehow stay away from scammers.

I've bought over three thousand items over the years, with only a couple of real problems.

My criteria are a reasonable number of feedback as a seller and and a near 100% positive, plus common sense & avoiding those with generic photos rather than the actual items.

    • I am looking for a movement for this watch. On the movement is engraved: CASIO UNAD JUSTED NO (0) JEWELS EIB-b thanks
    • Yes from the Serial No it's 1953 and from that I expect it's radium so be careful.
    • Everyone, I'm working on an ETA 2472. Everything has gone well so far. However (there's always a however), when I install the balance it starts up just fine. When I tighten down the screws to snug, it continues to run. When I tighten the screws, the balance stops dead. The upper jewel is an Incabloc setting held in place by a u-clip on the underside of the balance cock. The lower jewel is an Incabloc setting held in place by a screw. I'm pretty sure the balance staff is straight and has no issues. So, I need some advice: 1. Do I live with the screws in the snug position and hope they don't back out? 2. Try to install a shim in between the main plate and the balance cock. I used a dial washer on another watch for a similar problem and it worked. 3. Adjust the height of the jewels within the Incabloc settings. If so, how does one do this? I do have a Horia tool. Thanks, MikeCJ
    • Hi, I bought this Doxa ladies watch on Ebay. My Geiger counter clearly shows that it has radioactive lume. Is it possible to identify the year of production and whether the lume is Radium or Tritium? I read about the 7-digit Doxa serial numbers where the first two digits indicate the year of manufacturing. That would mean that the watch is from 1953. For that it is in very good condition, but is the design consistent with  the 1950s?
    • Since we need first to see if this combination of parts (the balance + hairspring +staff + roller) will work correctly in this movement, gluing is the way to go. Then, if it is confirmed workable, may be tightening of the roller hole will be considered. Of course, making custom staff will solve all possible problems in the best way. But, is this watch worth it?
