…so this is the brother watch I agreed to look at for a colleague. My first of type I was thinking it would be straightforward. I’m already confused.  The interwebs tell me there are front loaders and two-piece but if the former how do you get in? Just pull the crystal and jiggle the split stem? Any other pitfalls with these?

…so its looking good. No issues with the crown removal or the movement. No rust and looks to have never been serviced. Dried gunk. There’s that greenish glue holding the hairspring in the stud. The hole in the barrel bridge has been tidied a bit…

…I’m waiting on a new crystal as the old one was cracked and not just scratched. A special Stella 24 1/2 says the interwebs. There's extra importance to the crystal here as it holds everything together so hopefully it’s the correct size…IMG_1167.thumb.jpeg.b29a7fb79f0896721c4800bcd0234144.jpegIMG_1179.thumb.jpeg.009818641262b7ea39a1bf128f77126d.jpeg

…and finished…enough. The replacement crystal I ordered from Ofrei was supposed to be a Stella but a Sternkreusz N of similar size arrived. It didn’t snug the movement down like it is supposed to- the lip on the bottom is fractionally narrower than the original. So I’m a bit peeved but I had cleaned up the original so small crack and all it is going home before Christmas and I will find a suitable replacement later if so desired…
