Elgin A-11 extended wheel removal

Recommended Posts

Good morning,

I've started working on this A11 watch.  I can't figure out how to safely remove the wheel with the arrow in the picture (extended seconds/fourth wheel?).  On wristwatch revival (youtube) the gentleman used a tool which looked something like the second picture attached; but what i have doesn't seem like it would work--too big and the tool's center post would prevent the wheel from lifting up.  is there a specialty tool i need to buy.  what about using watch hand levers, or would that not be safe?  thanks for any advice.  arron.

holy toledo!  is it gold plated.  🙂  that's exactly the tool wristwatch revival used.  thanks for sending that.  it's out of stock at esslinger.  it looks like it might be available elsewhere for a little cheaper.  well, a good excuse to buy another tool.  Take care, Arron.

thanks for that reference.  once i get the sweep wheel off, then the barrel bridge, hopefully that provision will make more sense to me.  this is the first a11 i've worked on.  i did order the removal tool on ebay, so just waiting for it to arrive to continue my progress.  take care.  arron.
