RW case was NOT steel throughout!

What a dilemma! I thought this Raymond Weil case was all steel. As I went to polish the bezel, the chrome plating started coming off revealing it's true brassy colour!

Customer is understanding but really upset. Can anyone recommend a silver/chrome plater who might be able to plate on brass? I've checked all the top lads in Hatton Garden and they're not willing to take it on.

Can anyone share some wisdom and recommendations?

Thanks in advance,

Hiren.

Don't know if this is something you want to take on and learn, but silver and gold plating is quite straightforward and the machines needed are inexpensive (the solutions can fluctuate in price).  If you have any scrap cases/bezels you could easy do a few and see how they come out.  You just have to look up what binds to the base metal, and if you can't plate directly on (you can't with brass) you use an intermediate metal.  For example, with brass I know you have to plate with nickel first, then gold to get a gold plate.

Hey, sorry for the delayed response. And thanks for your input. I've thought many times about doing plating. Sadly my workshop is quite small with terrible ventilation.

As luck would have it, there was a RW Tango on eBay! Case was scratched but the bezel was mint! Tension relieved at the tune of fifty quid, 😅

Never polishing those cases again!
