That sounds pretty interesting to me! But this generates some more questions 😅 1) if this is silver sulphide then the jewel housing must be made out of silver right?! Does anyone know for sure which material is used by ETA for this? It was very shiny before...so it would not surprise me. On the other hand....why would I use silver for that, when the pivot never touches this housing?! Would be a waste of money for me?! 2) if this is silver sulphide - do you think it's required to remove it...or can we live with it on the main plate/housing? Actually it's a shock jewel housing...so in my opinion it's only cosmetic and will not influence the performance of the balance?! -

Specific gravity is now called relative density. Set water at 1 and compare solids and liquids to it. The density if brass is appropriately 8500 kg/m³ so it's relative density is 8.5 etc. Gasses are compared to air, air equals 1. -

I thought the modern water density measurement is 1 tonne per cubic metre.? Sp. gr. ? Something per gram ? -

Looks like your doing it correctly, trying a light Polish of the mating surfaces, clean of and try again. -
I am having a few issues replacing the bezel on an 80's Orient Automatic. The bezel came off with a case knife in the machined slot and the crystal popped out the back of the bezel. Trying to reinstall and I can't get it to snap into place. I am using a cheap case back press with a lever and, what feels like, too much force. The cheap press frame is bending away. I don't want to break anything but it just won't snap into place. Am I missing a trick here? The nylon die fits over the crystal and onto the bezel.Â
