I have a spare Elma watch cleaning machine I wish to get working and unfortunately the mains  wire had a connector in it which came apart in a recent house move. It all looks a bit of a mess! Coming out of the machine I have 4 wires. Red and grey twisted together, a black and a green or blue, bit difficult to tell. I have heard that early German wiring used red as an earth and I don't want a disaster. Could anyone advise?

BTW I have put a meter from each lead to the body to establish earth but none have continuity(strange)

Many thanks

Clive

Are you sure it's not 3 phase ?

3 phase colours should be brown, grey, black and blue and a separate earth.  Blue is neutral

No, definitely not. It was working until we moved house but got pulled apart by my hasty helper! The wiring wasn't good ever and was in a connector which was poor. It has a a plate on side showing 210/230 volts. Thanks for reply anyway
