Miyota Movement To Replace The Citizen 5421A

Recommended Posts

Hi fellow watch nuttaroonies

Once again I'm fixing one of my Mum's friends watches ... I seriously don't think she has too many friends left without perfectly serviced watches any more :P  I think I've done them all now.

What can I say ... I love my Mum :)

This one is a Citizen Elegance Bracelet Watch, with an obsolete 5421A movement.

This watch came to me not running.

Once striped down it was obvious the last person to attempt a battery change had pushed their case knife into the coil ... ugh!!

I still stripped the movement and serviced it for practice, since it wasn't a movement I'd done before.

Notice the fingerprint across the entire bridge *sigh* ... I should send it in to the police for a match, and find the perpetrator of the coil damage.

Sorry about some of the images being buried, this is a very small movement and the macro focus had trouble focusing on it; and not the surroundings.

Here's the movement all serviced and back in the case ... awaiting a new coil.

Now I'm looking at purchasing a second-hand movement to scavenge a coil from ... but I'm still concerned about the circuit, as these old circuits start to draw more and more current the older they get.

Soooo, is there a modern Miyota Movement to replace this obsolete one?  And if so, where do you find this type of information?

Thanks in advance for all the replies.

Thanks Canthus!

How on earth do you know this?  Is there a cross-reference chart, cause I'd love a link to it if there is mate.

Once again, thank you for such a fast response ... we have such a great group of people here!
