Hi I have a Bulova accutron with swiss eta 252.262 movement. The watch is having an issue with the date change function, when I rotate the crown for date change it instead moves the hour hand and not the date wheel. I can continue moving the hour hand twice around and date does changes . The date is changing every 24 hrs .

Any advise how to fix this issue ?

Hi, bit of a vague answer but... I'm not too familiar with this movement but sometimes on a movement (Especially older ones) you have to turn the main hands past the point were the date changes, wind it back to about 9 o'clock then wind it forward again and repeat. until the date is correct (Really annoying when you miss it). You can tell if this is the case because when you wind it back the date will not go back to the previous date. Other watches you actually push the crown in and the date will click round with each push. The final one is that you are missing the first click of the crown. The final click is usually the one that moves the hands. You could try pulling the crown a little softer to see how many clicks there are. If you can adjust the date with the crown please make sure the time is before 9 O'clock as the mechanism which adjust the date normally (by the time just moving forward), will have already engaged and it may damage it.
Hope this helps

Forgot to add that if you do find it is the first of the two clicks to alter the date (Quick set function) on some watches it will only work in one direction of turning to advance only.

Failing all this it may have an actual mechanical issue (Doh!!) 🙂

@Deomandinka thanks for responding. It is actually the first click. The click is pretty absolute. I tried moving the main hands back and forth at date change point didnt help. Here is a link to a quick video I made to show what's happening if I am trying to change the date

LOL, there is no quick set on these watches. It is changed with the "Time Zone" i.e the hour changer.

Here is the manual for you

Enjoy 🙂

That's how it's supposed to work. My Tag changes date in exactly the same way. The hour hand is moving separately from the rest of the movement which allows it to keep time whilst changing the hour or date.

Ha ha! No worries, when I first bought the watch (some 25 years ago) I thought it was dodgy, there's a fair bit of resistance when you turn the hour over - it didn't feel right at first.

    • In writing "shimming the staff" I was alluding to the idea trailed in the above referenced thread of inserting a hair along the staff which, as the discussion there covered,  could result in some eccentricity. By making a (more or less) complete cylinder I was hoping to avoid that problem. Don't tell anyone, but needing a very ductile metal to do this by manipulation at such a small scale, I used a piece of an empty Tomato pureé tube! It occurred to me that the material's ductility(?) would also put less stress on the RT in forming a sufficiently tight seal. Anyway, that's how I avoided the temptation to use glue. No doubt your punctuational response to this confession will be "!!!" !
    • Hi All. I would appreciate some advice for a complete newbie on getting into watch servicing - nothing serious,  just as a fun project. I've got a thing for hand-wound watches and would like to bring an old watch (or two) back to life, so looking to learn to do a strip-clean-oil-assemble cycle.   I've toyed with this idea in the past (years ago) and picked up a couple candidates to learn on, but never found the time for them.  One is an old Ingersoll, swiss-made 17 jewels. It seems to wind and tick. Casing, dial, glass are in great shape, so looks like a good candidate to me for the first service. The other is a Benrus DR23. It winds and makes a few reluctant ticks, but then seems to stop. Casing looks like a complete gonner, and the dial is in pretty poor shape too. If the movement is not broken and just needs a service, I wonder if there's any possibility of getting a cheapo Chinese casing & dial to fit this movement in, or is it extremely unlikely to be the right size?   For a start, I want to strip & assemble a movement, perhaps a dozen times to build up the basic parts handling skills. I see that online advice is to buy a Chinese-made ST36 for this purpose. Can I just go at the Benrus or Ingersoll instead, or does it make more sense to get a cheap ST for this? Thank you.
    • Hi,  I have this vintage Navitimer 806 with a bezel that plays a little bit as shown in this video: https://imgur.com/a/2NjdiF0 How would you fix this? I don't see where a gasket would fit for instance. Also, it seems this issue happens sometimes with older Navitimers.  Thanks
    • This is a screenshot of a video of it running. Not the best quality, though.
