Hey

Is the driving wheel supposed to turn with the cannon pinion?

I have connected the cannon pinion to the driving wheel so that the cannon pinion cog is on top of the driving wheel.(the way i found it)

So when i go to alter the hands the minute wheel moves the cannon pinion but only the cannon pinion the driving wheel does not turn and they are connected. The minute post turns the hour wheel.

So when the hands are on, the hour hand for some reason is jerky and reluctant to go, And its the hands that came with the watch working. also it is a nice snug fit.

When i took the watch apart again to see what's going on the only difference was the cannon pinion and the driving wheel had come apart.

hence my question should the driving wheel turn with the cannon pinion.

cheers

Yes, during normal operation, that is when the watch is ticking. However, when you set the time the cannon pinion should be slipping on the driving wheel. My guess is that the cannon pinion is too loose on the driving wheel intermittently slipping during normal operation, and this would explain the jerky behavior. You probably need to replace the entire unit, i.e. "cannon pinion with driving wheel (part no. 242)".

In my experience this part, when new, needs a good greasing as seen in the above picture.

Not sure if it is of any use to you but here's a link to my service walk-through of the ETA 2472.
