Hello, I was servicing this old chronograph that looks to me like it's probably from the mid-late 1930s. I've serviced a few Venus 170 movements before but noticed something different that I've never seen before. It is double stamped "170" for the caliber and appeared to have not been serviced in an extremely long time. The pivoted detent (I think that's what you would call this part) is unique to anything I've seen. I can't find another Venus movement with this part and can't find any other 170s with this layout either. It does not look custom made and works perfectly fine. I'm wondering if this is an odd variant of the movement and if anyone has seen this before?

Hello! I am planning to service this watch soon. The only information I can find online is a parts catalogue from cousins UK but I was wondering if anyone had an actual service manual for the Venus 170? I want to make sure I do everything in the correct order and oil only that which is essential. I'm hoping to find one similar to the landeron service manuals available online. Failing that, would anyone be able to indicate which screws are the eccentric screws on this movement? That would go a long way in helping without the use of a manual. Thank you for any help you can give!

I inherited my grandfathers's 1950 Orfina chrongraph which has a Venus 170 movement. He died in a moped accident wearing it. When wound (winding is very stiff) it will run for several hours, then stop. Any ideas about where in the movement I should look for the culprit? It was "cleaned" by local watch repairer, but whatever he did didn't solve the problem. I am learning watch repair, mostly through Mark's excellent videos and plan to do the servicing.

Hello, I came across a battered vintage watch while shopping for quartz Wengers online. I like taking things apart, fixing broken things, tools, watches, and the movement of the spheres, so this seems like a good next hobby (currently I do amateur astrophotography). Plus my dad fixes vintage clocks and chronometers. Anyway, more to come on my recently acquired Empire Watch Co. Venus 170. Thanks, Scott
