Levin Drill Press Restoration...

All:

With the help of another friend, I recently finished the restoration of a beat-up Levin drill press that I bought on eBay for $150.00. These machines usually sell for quite a lot of money and are extremely accurate so I figured for that price, what have I got to lose. Here are pictures of the process.

The first image shows the condition from the seller  - totally reconfigured and the bearings were completely gone. I had to rebuild the pulley belt tensioning system. The last picture shows the completed state. We used an ER11 collet spindle as the collets give a little more accuracy than the original WW 8mm setup. We sand blasted the parts, primed, and painted them.

Often if you're willing to do the grunt work of restoration, you can get some good deals of really fine machines.

Thanks,

Tom
