I have a movement which is a non-runner which I thought I take apart. The movement is a seven Jewell oris 581 KIF with a pin pallet.

I can’t get the cannon pinion off however. There is nothing for the presto type tool that I have to grip on to. I had a little go with tweezers without success - was being pretty gentle though as didn’t want to break anything. The whole movement is very stiff - train wheels turn by stop dead when force is removed. Movement was a non-runner. It’s really dirty so maybe is just needs a clean 🤞

Anybsuggestion on shownto remove the cannon pinion much appreciated as I’m a bit stuck at the moment.

thanks, Bill

I filed a little slot on my presto tool to remove these types that are hard to grip. I used a 3 square file and put it on one side of the arms.

Do you mean a bit like this?  This is the picture of the tool I have as when I bought it.

Give the movement a few hours soak in CocaCola.

Next grab the canon part of the canon pinion in a stem holder tool, pull streight up.

Oops ,All above with balance complete removed ofcourse.

Thanks - didn't have any CocaCola but went for it with a pin vice and managed to get it off; I think without bending anything.

It was vey well fixed on though!

CocaCola  dissolves oil / grease  and help remove rust.
