I recently bought a Regulador DG pocket watch as my first project to work on. When I opened up the watch I found that the top jewel on the balance wheel is split in two. I measured one half of the jewel as 1.5mm. I need to source a replacement and also fit it. I don't have a press to insert the jewel and at this stage I don't want to spend too much on tools. I would appreciate any suggestions to replace this. I think the watch is generally in fairly good condition. I did have to straighten the teeth on one of the cogs however, they were all bent over.

I would also like to know some more about this watch, age, where it was made etc.

The 2 clear covers are both plastic. I assume these have been replaced

Welcome to the forum.

Can you confirm the jewel is from the balance as there still appears to be something
there and can't see how you'd remove a broken one without unscrewing the cover?

What You have is Roskopf watch, there is a lot information on the net. You movement is jeweled, so it is not from the latest issues, but should be post 1900. The picture is not clear to see if it is with platform escapement, I would guess it is not. I doubt that the jewel is 1.5mm, this is too large. Then, this jewels are not pressed, they are rubbed in. You need to remove the cap jewel plate and show picture of it's bottom side, May be the hole can be reamed to accept modern pressed jewel.

Can we see the cogs with the bent teeth?

Thanks for your reply Andy. I could only measure half of the jewel accross the diameter so the measurement might not be exact, it's 1.5mm

Replacing the rubbed-in jewel or replacing it with a friction-fit jewel after reaming the hole to size both require specific tools (either readily bought or Nevenbekriev-style diy 😉) and preferrably some practice on a scrap movement. If you don't have these tools you might try to source a replacement part (cap jewel plate).
