Hello everyone im new here and to watch repair and im diving in the deep end ,

for a long time ive been trying to identify a movement so i could chase parts or new complete movement and it turns out my movement is a chinese automatic sp16 /6 hand  sun/moon

after a very long time on the internet i found this site Watch Repair Talk with an image of said movement from an old post ,ive contacted many suppliers and they said they have a newer version movement  that will be a direct fit but im not that lucky they look the same but the day/date pins (if thats what there called ) dont line up with the holes in the dial  .so ive ended up with two new movements that are of no use to me from two suppliers . all i was originally looking for was a complete balance wheel /spring/splint that i could just drop in my existing sp16  movement  as mine is damaged and im not capable of fitting a new spring so if anyone could advise about parts or if you have one in you collection  it would be great  i have about 30 watches in a box i collected over the years 40s/50s curtis automatic working/ peerex stops starts pocket watches /trico and others   but non have a balance that would fit mine looks seiko /orient style .ive even contacted  chinese suppliers but get no reply  so if there's anyone out there please reply

kind regards Wayne

The pins are called dial feet, sorry I'm not familiar with the movement.

Sorry confused now.  The dial is held in place with dial feet, and yes, they have to be in the correct position.  The hands fit onto various pivots, centre wheel etc.

Does the dial not fit or the hands

If it's just the hands that don't fit the new movements then your best option is just to get new hands that will fit.

As always it's best to post photos with your query as it makes things a lot clearer.

Edit

I've just realised that the day/date are hands (not numbers on dials) and as such your
only option is to get a movement with then in the correct position to fit through the dial.

im so sorry now i know there called pivots i can hopefully correct myself .the pivots on the new movement do not line up with the holes in my original dial the spacing is slightly off but enough to stop the dial locating over all pivots ,for the hands to be fitted ,hope that's understandable im sorry but i shoult get the name correct before posting

I understand now @AndyGSi. Still doesn't help finding the right movement.

No as it's a very odd ball movement with the day and date very close to the centre compared with others.

Edit

I think the only option would be to go for an SP10 and lose the month pivot @12.

You need to be careful what SP10 you get as some have an actual date number @3.

cheers Andy your first image is almost identical to my sp16 in all visual ways ie metal markings/  holes /screws the sp10 looks like the same metal body but with added hand @12 my concern is the size and distances of pivots no one  shows the specs but saying that if the balance was the same i could just drop it into my movement ,i will check those links but i may have already found them in the past the watermark on your first image is out of stock

thanks again wayne

The first image was just showing others what the SP16 looked like.

Looking at the SP10s I've shown links for I'm unsure about some of them due to their description.

'The watch hands shown in the pictures are just for display.'

yeah i now the hands in the pictures are for display purpose  they are there to show location of hands . the so called replacement movements i had come came with gold dummy hands (seagull st6502 st6 ) which is useless to me i will have to sell them on and try to recoup some money to buy another  movement

thanks again wayne

Going back to the start, what's the watch and how's the spring damaged?

The problem here is even the cheapest SP10 is probably more expensive than the watch itself.

the watch was my dads about 20/30 years ago its what he called a wanna be lookalike watch lets say it not a real (pat..phi........) nice looking dial  it was broken when he had it but never got around to fixing it .dont forget the net wasn't what it is now so finding parts wasn't easy then as for damage the spring is missing and one of the what i call regulator setting parts top (lever) is missing if that makes sense

to be honest what the value of the watch is means nothing i would just like to get it working thats the value to me  because my dad didnt get around to it im 62 now my dad passed 22 yrs ago maybe becoming sentimental comes with getting old and as for cost my dad always said even a bargain cost money .

On the listings where it says 'The watch hands shown in the pictures are just for display.' it means that these don't have any dial other than the sun/moon.

my dial as day date @3 and @9 and sun/moon 24hr @6  hr/min/and center seconds  6 hands in total

cheers Andy

ive been looking at all the spxxxx serise and they all appear to use the same balance so maybe it would be easier to get any spxxx movement  and use the balance which would fit my original correct movement that 100% fits and save any messing about hoping because as you pointed out they  can vary movement to movement with different suppliers ,

what do you think

Yes I'd expect they'd use the same balance and they do look the same as yours so probably the easiest fix.

cheers again i will go that route i think and even the cost of another movement to use for spares is still cheaper than trying to get my movement repaired at a local shop  thanks again Andy you have helped a lot my brain can take a rest now haha
