So I've an old Precista G10 fatboy here that I'd like to remove the movement from as it needs a new acrylic - I've tried using a syringe to pop it out to no avail and really would like to give the case a clean too...

So yeah, in theory (based on reading) the movement drops out with the case back  removed by inverting the watch, in practice this isn't the case and I'm not sure what the process is for helping it out? Any ideas?

Pic below - I think theres an inner movement ring that's the full height of the watch case which I assume is gunked up a bit?

Should add I've tried a crystal lift to remove the crystal too.

Need to see photos of the front and bezel.

Edit

Just done a quick search and from what I can see I'd expect a crystal lift to work.

What crystal lift have you got?

Also you may wat to have a look at this.

Crystal lift is a cheap one, which is probably why it's not working! Maybe I'll have to take it to someone with a decent one...

Thanks for the link - I know that one well and what a great blog. Not sure if the Precista version is put together slightly differently - the crown assembly/gasket setup isn't what I was expecting from my later version cwc so perhaps there are other differences.

Here's a photo of the front side - you can see why I want to replace that acrylic though I'm currently trying to convince myself period warts and all is best!

Watch is running great as far as I can tell - arrived yesterday via mail in a jiffy bag which felt very wrong!

I've only got a cheap one and never had any problems.

I would have expected an inner movement ring as below.

Yes, that's the sort of thing I was expecting - I think there's a slight difference with this movement but having poked around it doesn't want to be shifted. I can rotate the dial/movement but the ring itself doesn't want to lift out and there's not a lot to grip onto.

Crystal lift wise I wonder if it's the tension ring making it tricky? I had a similar issue with the W10 in that I couldn't get the crystal out with the lift. In the end I used the syringe for that which so far I haven't managed on this.

I'll have another go with both I guess - if I can the crystal off front side the movement/ring can stay in place really.

Manage to get it out with compressed air, albeit with slightly more aggressive form.

Did it come out the back and was their a movement ring?

I removed the crystal and pushed it out gently from the dial side - while I didn't seperate the movement from the ring I'm pretty sure that I could have done, so to answer your question yes I'm pretty certain the movement is held in place by that ring shown in the picture above.

Because I had one I've fitted a domed mineral for now - looks great though I've the correct part on order that I'll make decision on later...

Unfortunately the job is not quite done, as always seems to be the case! Hour/minute hand isn't set right, so I'll be going through the whole process again at some point soon...
