Hey everybody,

I've been working on a PUW 1461 and encountered a barrel I have not seen before. It does not have a separate arbor but rather a fixed combination of barrel lid and arbor. The problem I am facing right now, is that the diameter of the "arbor" is too big to be seated into the inner most coil of the mainspring. I've tried the usual techniques of carefully turning it against the direction of the spring and rocking back and forth, but to no avail, it won't seat itself. Today I mangled a new mainspring and decided to ask for help - can anybody give me some tips or techniques for this kind of barrel?

Thank you in advance! 🙂

(excuse the poor quality, this is the only way I can manage to take a close up picture)

Do I understand correctly that you're trying to put in a new generic mainspring in, but the size of the inner coil is not correct?

If so, you can alter it's size as is explained in this video:

Yes, that ist exactly what I meant and the video is very helpful! Thank you very much, I will try this when I get a new mainspring. 🙂

Yesterday I got the new mainspring in the mail. As I was getting ready and setting up my soldering iron I realized, that with this mainspring the diameter of the innermost coil  was a little bit wider. I gave it a try and the lid/arbor snapped into place instantly. Soooo... I don't know that is up with that, but it worked out for me.

Thank you for the pointer, Caseback, I will consider it the next time I have a similar problem. 🙂
