Eyup good watch people, a little post regarding an indian wash basket I've just had delived. These are the cleaning baskets that come with the janta pearl machines if anyone is thinking of trying them, cost to UK around £80 delivered. Quality is sort of ok, the run out from the lid was terrible then amplified down to the basket to the point of almost unusable. An hour or so filing a bit here and a bit there improved it, finished with a run out of 1-2mm at the bottom of the basket which makes much better. I would say its worth the price even with the added adjustment. Runs well in the cleaning solution.

I have a pearl machine and have replaced the large metal basket with an Elma blue plastic one, for the reasons you mentioned above. The Elma basket works well and is 100% compatible with the machine, jars and parts sub-baskets.

Just a quick observation, the 3 pronged black spring thing is meant to be permanently attached to the central post/axle on the machine and not removed with the baskets. You need to remove the screw/but on the bottom of the post and attach the spring and the reattach the screw/bolt. I'll take a picture when I get home. Not sure if this is applicable or needed for your machine?

Thanks waggy looking at a few videos i did notice about the spring , the post i have is home made from a drill bit, the basket didn't come with the janta post and the spring actually fitted poorly into the basket so had to be altered. I'll be making a new one in time. The wobble was quite easy to fix using a reference point at the top and the botton of the basket . Filling small amounts off the locking tabs, it runs ok now but it was terrible.

Sorry but £80 is too much for something that is not fit for purpose.

I agree Richard but sending it back to india and relying on getting a refund from an honest seller is a risk. An hour spent adusting it to work correctly i dont mind and its a big improvement to what i was using. I was disappointed but i knew from HectorLooi's description of his that there could be a problem. He mentioned the same issue and worked around it, i figured i would be able to do the same. I dont recommend buying one unless someone is prepared to take that chance it can be corrected, 4 up to now I've heard have this problem, even on a complete janta pearl machine. I'm happy , i could have been happier and i wasn't going to pay 3+ times that for an elma basket.

    • Totally Andy's brilliant idea. I just started the thread.  For what my opinion is worth, the number should be quite low. That's the point of it. It's as much about the hunt as the act of servicing/repairing the watches. I don't have too much of an opinion on currency, but £ has a slight edge since that's what it started with. This is a global forum, so the majority of people will be converting values no matter what. I don't know if there are any currency traders here, but if there's any currency that's especially stable or some other attribute that would benefit the game, that could be amusing. Maybe one that's super volatile? Qualification is heavily influenced by what wacky things some currency is doing on a given day (though usually that means shrinkage). We could go for something super obscure like the Chilean Peso or something just for giggles (though it might make conversion difficult). A lot of currencies are indexed to the US$, which would ease some of the conversion friction for some people. Just spitballing. My vote in the poll would be for £ inflation adjusted to £4.04 ca. 2020. I'm ticking those boxes, but I'm not sure about the 6.99. Is that £, or another currency? Source?
    • Looks like a genious design! 👍 What is your experience?
    • I am trying to rationalize what is going on with this eta 955.112.  It operates within the manufactures published specs for all tests, with the exception that when the stem is pulled out completely, the  internal IC consumption jumps to 75ua.   It should be < .5ua.  1st thought was faulty ground switch....  but hat did nothing.  Swapping the electronic module fixed the problem-   ruling out it being a grounding switch issue.    Do i Just a bad movement?  ot is there something else going on ?   cold solder joint at ground pin?    Has anybody seen this or want to take a stab at why
    • Definitely have a look around ebay for Arnex pocket watches. You'll find many that are still in their gift boxes, essentially new old stock Swiss movements for very low prices.
