Repair of Bergeon 5700

Hi!  I just bought a vintage Bergeon 5700.  The problem with the item, however, is that the tube where the shaft passes is getting removed.  Please see the picture.

As such, the shaft falls down without the something resisting the spring.

I can try applying adhesive but i was wondering if its missing a part or if there is a correct way of fixing this?
