As a not quite newbie but certainly not fully formed watchmaker the one part I can say I'm not really enjoying is fitting the hands at the end. It's the one area where I've not developed a technique that works for me.

So, first off, a real basic question. When fitting hands (without a movement specific holder)  should I have the watch on the cushion or a hard surface?

Secondly any top tips or pointers would be very much appreciated.

Thanks!

I am new to building watches, too. I am just sharing my experience. You decide how you want to proceed.

I started with eta 2824-2 (5) and some of its clones (3) and Seiko NH34A (1). I did use a Bergeon Case Cushion 5395-75  and sometimes a Horotec movement holder to place hands and had no issues. I just used just enough pressure to place the hands. I guess more experienced watch builders or makers will frown upon what I did, but it worked for me.  I did purchase a 7750 movement holder. If something gets messed up with a 7750 movement, it gets cumbersome, and I am not yet ready for that.
