Should I be worried about this mainspring barrel?

Evening again

From the same clock the strike side barrel just doesn't look right. As you can see it's bulging and the brass has a crack developing. I've not got round to opening it up as I was too busy cleaning the rest of the clock today.

Do you suppose someone in the distant past popped a spring in that's too big, or is this just wear and tear? 

Is the barrel done for or can it be recovered/repaired?
