I have been surfing the bay looking for a staking set. I keep seeing these small sets that do not have a main stand/holder. It's just an anvil and punches.

Are these used for the same jobs as the standard staking tool set? Are they just hand held (not as precise) versions of the same tool? After watching marks videos on balance staff replacement I could not imagine doing that job holding the punches by hand.

It is quite possible those are clock staking sets.

It is better to find a watchmakers set as this will give you more control :)

Thanks Mark. That makes sense.

And thank you for your great videos. Watching them gave me the courage to open a watch and start working. Though you make it look so much easier then it actually is. :)
