Removing stem from Rotary 3984 (French quartz)

Recommended Posts

Hi all. First-time poster here. I need to remove the movement and crystal from this watch so that I can send the case to be replated. I've been looking at videos and tutorials on how to remove the winding stem, but for the life of me I can't figure out how to do it on this watch. I know it should be a relatively simple operation, and the guy at my local jeweller was going to charge me $45 to do the disassembly, so here I am!

The problem is that I don't see any arrow, or "dimple" that I'm supposed to push down on, or anything. Or if it's a screw release, I don't know which screw to unscrew. The watch in question is a quartz Rotary with a French movement and the number "3984" etched on the back.

If you take out the plastic movement holder and (repeatedly) pull the crown out as if setting the time and then push it back whilst carefully studying any likely holes/dimples/levers etc, the release mechanism should become apparent. They can be tricky to find at times but it will be there somewhere!

Good luck and let us know when you find it.
