I bought this Tissot seastar to investigate and try servicing but I’ve realised that it’s a bit too nice to let me loose on it yet! It has a date function and also a quick set date by pressing the crown neither of which I have ever worked on before. My question though is does this crown look right?

The watch winds but it is very stiff to turn and difficult to grip; and also the crown seems very small. Not sure if it is original and just worn or is from a different watch and was changed at some point?

Maybe a service is all it needs to make the winding easier?

Thanks, Bill

What's the full details?

Yes it does look different to your picture. What I know is:

Dial marked: Tissot Swiss SeastaR

Movement: Tissot 2461

On a full wind it has good amplitude (around 270 using LA of 52 - can’t find what the actual LA is)

Service history is unknown but the case back looks to have some markings which I understand are sometimes created when a watch is serviced (see attached photo)

The serial number seems to indicate a year of manufacture of 1973

Details for the crown don't appear correct from Cousins unless the gold one is only 3.5mm?

I measured the one that’s on there at the moment and using my not brilliant callipers it seems to be 4mm. If the correct one is actually slightly smaller then it would be a bigger to wind; Is it likely that once it is serviced the winding will be much easier making the small crown usable?

@AndyGSi are you able to let me know what the size of the crown is on the watch you posted?

It was just copied but this should give you an idea based on the case thickness.

Edit

Yes it could be hard to wind because it needs a service .
