I have accumulated 4 Caravelle 11DPs.  As of yet, nothing but a snowstorm outcome on watch #1.  With some sense of accomplishment I took it all they way down to the plate and put it back together.  Not a small feat for a newb.  Lost a main spring screw which was all a good lesson.  Took the watch down to my watchmaker and he politely said the HS is gummy, dirty.  Although not parallel to the cock, not rubbing.  Loosened the cock and put it back down and made no proclamation other than it did not look to be damaged.

I decided I would part out my other 11DPs and swap out a HS/balance wheel and see if I get any better results.  When I took one apart I noticed the impulse jewel sitting on the plate.  STUCK to the plate.  The photo shows two of my spares.  I was going to clean in Zippo lighter fluid.  Then put in my teaching watch.  The ST36 was so easy!

How do I put the impulse jewel back in?  What should I use to secure it? Or is it a friction fit?  No staking set.  No L&R chemicals....yet.  The left balance is missing its jewel.  The right is a plan C.   Sorry about depth of focus.  My skin is thick, let me have it, school me.  I am not defeated yet.

Hi, the roller jewel is normally held in place with a tiny amount of [flake] shellac that is heated to melt on the under-side of the roller jewel, on this model the roller should be removed to replace, that means using a roller remover, it might be easier for you to just replace with a donor till more tools are obtained, installing roller jewels are very tedious because the fit is extremely tight/close, good luck.....

Thank you CYCLOPS.  Given your guidance I opted to put aside this balance wheel and cock for a project in the future.  I harvested another balance wheel and have complete my first full reassembly excluding the ST36.  Thanks to those who have provided guidance and encouragement.  I will say it has tested me greatly.  Watch work is not for the impatient.

Of course it is not running well.  Last night it provided an impressive 232 deg of amplitude, .9ms beat error and +44 s/d.   I was pleased.  Tonight I have put in the keyless works which was more challenging than I care to admit.  Proudly all back together and a full wind with the crown and just 196 deg, 1.0 ms BE and +56s/d.  Pendant down, 133 deg, 1.3ms, 23 s/d.  How can I have 100 less degrees after putting in the keyless?  No known trauma to balance wheel.  Have to think about that one.

Well, walk away and let it run all night.  My focus was putting it together.  Cleaning, crude lighter fluid.  Lube, none yet.  On the plus side, I have been staring at parts and pieces of this 11DP I can now look at them and know what they are, what they do.   It was a herculean effort compared to the ST36 which went together easily.  Not sure why I struggled so with the smaller movement.  I am just proud she is running and stays running.  Albeit not well.

Next steps...take a break.  Read some more.  Assess my cleaning.  Take it all apart again and rebuild on a 17J plate and continue to develop skills.  Perhaps I should hold tight and work on diagnosing the current assembly and experiment with guidance from experts.

Thanks.

And sorry for the impulse jewel, roller jewel question.  Previously covered quite well in link below.
