A friend has asked me to see why her Sekonda quartz watch is not running, having had a new battery installed by a local jewellery store. It has a Morioka PC10A movement which is not holding the battery securely. The problem seems to be that two plastic 'rivets' [?] have been sheared off leaving the metal piece (at top of attached photo) which includes the positive connection too loose to hold the battery securely. Is there a way of repairing such damage or is a replacement movement the only option?

Well I've gone ahead & used an epoxy resin - applied with an oiler - on the missing rivet holes to see if that stabilises the loose metal piece which incorporates the ÷ve battery connection. So far it seems to have done the trick  - my wife has dropped it on the table attempting to put it on & worn it overnight & it's carried without missing a beat.

You do realise that the +ve contact is supposed to press against the side of the battery and not sit on top of it.

The battery should be a 319 not 379 so 2.7mm thick not 2.1mm thick which is why the contact isn't sitting correctly.

Yes: this is how it was on opening & why it wasn't running. When I pushed the contact plate back against the plastic base, the contact rested on the side of the battery & it started running. I did not check the battery type as it had been supplied & 'fitted' by a local jeweller ! But thank you for your comment: I will pass it on to my friend. As I've reported, the battery seems quite secure now so I'm inclined to leave it be. However, it's certainly a lesson learned !
