Hi folks, been searching around for a bit on this one and I keep coming up empty. I need to order a replacement crown for a Gruen that Im working on. I have the old crown, the stem is in decent shape so I'm going to re-use it, but I'm struggling to figure out how to properly size for a replacement. I measure the threads and get various different results based on where my caliper land. Do I need to just order an assortment and try a bunch?

Thanks so much

A thread gauge is one way to verify. You need the gauge ( thread increments ), and diameter of the stem where it will engage the crown.

You can find some old one's on Ebay for a relatively decent price sometimes.

Then also measure the crown tube ( if it has one ) to make sure it will fit over the tube / or the case opening if it's an older watch where the tube is part of the crown.

Hope this helps !
